This was the first tune I wrote after I lost the ability to play, when I could still peck at the piano with my index fingers for a few minutes before it became too painful. That method is also what I used in the studio. This tune was the only time I was able to play piano during the sessions. What a strange experience to be sitting at a piano, an instrument that I have known my whole life as if it was my closest friend, and still know how to play it, but not be able to touch it except in this very limited way, and only for one take, which is all that I could muster. When we were done recording I broke down sobbing. And yet this tune also represents the resilience of continually trying to adapt and recenter myself, just as plants turn to face the sun.
